Time Warner company AOL (America Online), formerly known as America Online has taken 3 lakh sq. ft. of office space in Bangalore. AOL will be recruiting 3000 freshers at this place.

The company had announced in August that it would be cutting about a quarter of its global workforce of 19,000 over the next six months as part of its plans to restructure its internet business. About 3,000 of those job losses were expected to happen in Europe and another 2,000 in the US. As part of that initiative , the company earlier this month announced the closure of its call centres in New Mexico and Arizona in the US and lay off the 1,400 workers in these facilities.

AOL, which already has a customer service and customer analysis centre in Bangalore, is about to launch ISP (internet service provider) services in India. This is expected towards the middle of next month. The company is said to have recently poached Deepak Karambelkar, former content head at Yahoo! India, but this could not be confirmed .

AOL’s move to cut jobs in the US and Europe followed its decision to offer for free its previously paid-for services to its broadband users, abandoning subscriptions and instead focusing on online ad revenues. This was a move to prevent an erosion of eyeballs to free rival Web services like Google, Yahoo and Microsoft.
