I am not a Yahoo guru or an expert in Yahoo. I have getting lot of emails about Yahoo! and some of them actually know that I have worked for Yahoo! Tech Support (Small World eh?). I will quote one of the most generic emails. This talks about the new Yahoo mail looks which has chat and Yahoo! News integrated. This can really be annoying when we are used to the old Yahoo! Mail since 98695 years now. Heres the email:

You have a good site and blog. I have several yahoo accounts and the BIGGEST problem is with the one created this past week, that insists on using the new format. It tries to load and eventually reverts to classic. Is there any way to just have it use classic in the first place? I use the classic format on the other ones and it works fine.
Yahoo support has been less than helpful here. Thanks.

The answer to is quite simple. Just look at the top of your screen and you will see this.

All you have to do is click on ‘Mail Classic’ after which you will get a pop up for confirmation and thats it. Within seconds you are switched to the old Yahoo! Mail again.

We all know how the spam bots have been capturing Yahoo Chat rooms since some time. Many regular chatters have already quit using Yahoo chat rooms as it is full of bots which keep posting links to pr0n websites. Yahoo has now tried to stopped this by asking users to type in the word and prove that the user is not a bot. Here is how it works…You login to your messenger and try to join a chat room by clicking on a room name and clicking on ‘Goto Room’…

Once you are in the room you see no one but my old friend the ‘Chat Admin’. :D. On the main screen you see the link to tell Yahoo that you are not a bot…

You come to a page where you need to enter the words and verify your account…

Once this is done, you are back in the same room with many more ‘VERIFIED’ chatters and no bots. :)..

I was a regular chatter in Yahoo Chat rooms when I was in college and it was fun then. This is a good move by Yahoo to get more people on chat rooms and get rid of spam bots. My personal experience says that the bots will come up with a bypass for his word verification pretty soon.

Some time ago I had mentioned about having issues with Yahoo mail. Now things have gone bad to worst. Not only do I have to search for my emails in the bulk folder but now I also have to ignore my not so important emails. Last night I was shocked to see all my emails coming to my inbox. This means all my mail filters were gone. I have subscribed to bugtraq and created a filter for it. Also, my work emails were forwarded to a particular folder which had a filter. Now everything comes to my inbox. Thankfully my folders are still there but the filters have disappeared. I had add to all filters manually now.

The image above shows how my filters are not working. I was/am expecting an apology email from Yahoo where they can accept the problem and apologies for the inconvenience but they haven’t done so yet. Yahoo Chat and email are the two biggest products used by people world wide. We have heard of Spam Bots & booting issues with Yahoo messenger and now the email issues. Many people have already started switching to GTalk and GMail which in my opinion provide excellent services than Yahoo.

Recently, I have been facing lot of issues with Yahoo mail. I have an email address made back in 1997 which already gets loads of spam. Spam was never a problem until few days ago. All my important emails are now going to bulk and most of the spam emails are coming to my inbox. Yahoo mail has definetely made some changes to their mail system which is causing lot of such issues. Now I have to go through every single email in the bulk folder to check if there is an important email there. Emails from Orkut are going to bulk…Other than this, people sending me their resumes, payment confirmation emails, e-tickets, bank statements etc. all keep going to the bulk folder. You have a choice of opening an email from the bulk folder and clicking on ‘not spam’ link on top. This tells the system that the email should goto inbox in future. Unluckily this is not working for me. Messages from Orkut still keep going to the bulk. Does Yahoo hate orkut which is a owned by Google?
