Tata Sky rocks my TV

I have been reading and watching lot about direct to home services currently offered in India. The Dish TV thing is absolutely crap as per all the reviews I have read on the Internet. Heard a lot bout Tata Sky and read its reviews on the Internet. I decided to install it in my house which has 2 television sets including the one in my bedroom which is turned on once in 3 months. I went to the Tata Sky website and was upset to see that I have to install 3 separate set top boxes for each of my televisions…now that would be an expensive & risky deal, especially when the service is currently new in India. A few days ago I got a call from MTNL people and they said they can provide me their IPTV service as I have MTNL triband at my home. The set top box from MTNL comes with no charge and at a rent of just Rs. 100 per month. The catch in this is that they will charge for the set top box some time later and the charge would be Rs. 6000 (All customers will have to pay this). When asked why the charge is so high, the person said it has huge capacity better than Tata Sky etc. etc. I asked this guy to call me back some time later and tell me more about the charges…this guy never called me up. Still I thought MTNL would be the best deal as I am very happy with their Internet (triband) sevice. A few days later they made an announcement of channels on their website…24 useless channels..BUMMER!

Day before yesterday I got this Tata Sky kit for my TV. It cost me Rs 4,550 which includes 82 days of viewing and Rs. 1000 installation charges. Lot of reviews on Tata Sky say that there are issues in the Thomson set top box and everyone should ask for a Humax one. I called up these guys and asked for a Humax one and they said lets see if anything is wrong in the one provided (Thomson) and if there is a problem, we will change it for you. This guy who was supposed to come on Monday came a day before and did the entire installation. He placed the dish on my terrace and explained everything systematically and in detail. I was very happy with this person’s service provided but unfortunately there was no customer feedback form or something with him.

The sound quality is too good and so is the picture quality. No issues whatsoever with the set top box and I don’t need a Humax one now. Best part is the match highlights…I missed the couple of early wickets India lost against South Africa and got to see them as many times as I wanted using the Active Sports feature. You can see what program is running on other channels without changing your current channel. You can see all channels of a category together on one screen. For e.g Star News, Aaj Tak & CNBC on a screen and keep switching. There are lot many other features for such low rates. This is one of the best deals I have come across. If you are thinking about getting Tata Sky, dont think…Go get it now!!!
