I have seen lot of people complain of not making money with websites. There are people who are into website business since years but are not able to make much money. Its not that easy to make money with websites. Google has been strict recently with copied content and web sites made for AdSense. To make some serious income from websites one has to first define how is the website going to make money. In this post, I am going to talk about making money from pay per click Ads using programs like Google AdSense.

 

 

Many people feel its easy to make money. They end up copying content from other websites and host a website. They do not concentrate on search engine optimization, traffic and other important aspects. Everyone feels that creating 100 pages of copied content and pasting the AdSense code on them is enough. Yes, this might have worked earlier but not now. Such sites will end up giving you a few cents per day and can even end up getting you banned from the Google AdSense program. Once banned, you are banned for life and not allowed to join Google AdSense. Now this can be of real risk as Google is the best PPC program and I do not see anyone close to Google AdSense for some time now.

 

So what are we talking about? We need to make a website and generate good revenue, but what is the website going to be about and how can we ensure that the website generates good revenue.

 

I will explain the Google AdWords and AdSense program here in brief. Google AdWords is a program where advertizers spend money to show their ads on Google search and various websites displaying Google AdSense Ads. An advertizer is charged on cpm or cpc basis. CPM is cost per million and CPC is cost per click. This means the advertizer is charged for displaying his advertizment a million times and/or someone clicks on his website. Google takes some amount of this money and passes the rest to the publisher who is showing the ads.

 

Keeping this important thing in mind we need to decide which ads will generate more cost per click or more cost per million displays. You need to put yourself in the advertizer’s shoes. They are also normal people and are trying to make money by advertizing their websites and products. No advertizer will display his ad in India when his product cannot be sold or delivered outside United States. If we look at the stats of people who shop online, it can be seen that maximum amount of online shoppers are from the US and the UK. This clearly means that more advertizers would be interested in showing ads on your website if your main traffic is from the US or UK. This also means that the rates per click are going to be high. In other words more advertizer competetion for your website is more money for you. These advertizers will be the one who actually sell a product on their website and make  alot more than what they are actually spending on the advertizement. The bottom line here is to target advertizers who sell products on their websites. Now this can be achieved by selecting a good niche. In this article we are talking about targetting auience in the US and UK which obviously means that a website related to Bollywood or Indian Televison will not generate as much revenue as much a website related to US product reviews will with same amount of traffic.
