You maybe right that alexa takes data via its toolbar but when we compare two sites we need to assume that the percentage of vistors who have alexa toolbar on both sites are same or there would be a minimal difference. For e.g I have alexa toolbar you do not. We both visit 2 websites and as per alexa both sites received 1 hits each which in my opinion can be the right data to calculate a websites exposure.

This seems to be obvious with your points, but as we all know Alexa Rank is not accurate it calculates merely based on the number of ppl who have Alexa tool bar installed in there browsers and visit your site, this can be manipulated easily.
